Letter for April

Dear Friends,

A great part of our experience is unremembered; so many of the influences which have shaped our lives have been unseen and unknown to us.    It is only at rare moments that we have been able to glimpse and identify with some measure of certainty the work of God within us. Such moments illuminate our whole life-history and show us that God has been there all the time, always at work in our lives.

This is the season for celebrating the coming of the Holy Spirit.

It is almost impossible to hold any picture in our minds of what the Holy Spirit is like. We have mental pictures of Jesus, but the Holy Spirit is less easily conceived and identifiable.

This well be a deliberate intention.

The function of the Holy Spirit is consistently described as drawing attention not to Himself but to Jesus. He is the backroom boy, the secret agent, the unseen operator who does a tremendous amount in our lives.

Our belief in the Spirit of God is grounded in human experience-in the experience of the first Christians who realised momentous changes were taking place in their lives, and in the experience of people ever since, who have recognised the source of the dawning upon their consciousness of spiritual reality.

So when we celebrate the coming of the Spirit let us be grateful that God has done far more for us than we will ever know and let us respond to the continued energy, guidance and influence of the Spirit of God.

With loving care,

David

PRAYER FOR THE MONTH

Holy Spirit of God, unseen, but not unknown to us, thank you for your work in our lives, shaping, guiding, leading, inspiring, awakening us to awareness of beauty and truth.

Increase our alertness to your gentle promptings and may we be more ready to follow

Amen
